I realize that if you read the above title too quickly, it looks like I wrote “PEEING”. Don’t worry. There’s an “L” in there. I promise.
Last week, I was sick as a dog (for the first time in at least 3 years). I sucked it up, and did everything in my power to get better. The results: I ailed my sickness faster than I’ve ever remembered. Unlike my younger (less wise) self, I did lots of things right this time.
I kept hydrated
I can always remember my mother telling me to keep drinking while I was sick. Nowadays, I always stay hydrated. Why change that now? I made sure that I was peeing clear all day. (That time I wrote “peeing”).
I didn’t eat crap
For the most part, I kept my diet very similar to the way it normally is. My food choices consisted of meats, veggies, eggs, coconut oil, and supplements. This doesn’t meant that I didn’t have cravings. I craved desserts, doughnuts, and a bunch of other processed carbs. I guess the unstimulating life of laying in bed all day really took its toll on me.
It’s amazing the number of people that eat like crap once they get sick. I’ll tell you one thing: it’s not going to help you get better any faster.
I upped my Vitamin C intake instead of buying orange juice
One of my pet peeves is when people buy orange juice because they want vitamin C. There are much better alternatives than buying orange juice, and they are: eating an orange, or taking a vitamin C supplement. Here’s the reason: just one glass of orange juice per day could increase the risk of diabetes.
I lowered my carb intake, as well as my overall caloric intake
Here was my train of thought: if I was laying in bed all day, my caloric intake didn’t need to be so high. Also, I’ve personally found that when I am sedentary, my body seems to accumulate more fat unless I am eating low carb.
I increased my Greens+ intake
Cutting my overall caloric intake meant that I wasn’t ingesting the same amount of vegetables as before; hence my need for Greens+. I have also found that Greens+ makes me feel better throughout the day. This one is a no brainer.
I increased my fish oil intake
When I get sick, I start to get acne. Acne is inflammation of the skin. If my skin was inflamed, the inside of my body was probably inflamed as well. Fish oil has tremendous benefits – one of them being a natural anti-inflammatory. This one was another no brainer.
I took Exedrin when my fever got too unbearable (my mom told me to)
For two nights in a row I frequently awoke to find myself drenched in sweat. That was my fever waking me up to remind me to take some Exedrin.
I slept as much as possible
Remember, nothing beats rest and recovery.
I got better
In 1.5 days. Hallelujah.

Tim has a new book coming out entitled: The 4-Hour Chef: The Simple Path to Cooking Like a Pro, Learning Anything, and Living the Good Life. As the title suggests, this book is way more than just a cookbook. You can preorder it below. I know that I will be doing so in the very near future.
