Wow. I have a treat for you today. My friend Krista Scott-Dixon just released her free ebook (which is worth way more than that), Fuck Calories. I think that everybody could learn something from this beautiful book. Her matter-of-fact no bullshit approach to nutrition is simple, beneficial, and sustainable. Do you want to learn something about food (or possibly even yourself)? Then do yourself a HUGE favour and download this book.
Here are my top 7 favourite quotations from this book:
- Don’t treat food as an extraneous expense. Food makes your body go. That’s worth more than cable TV, velour sweat pants with “JUICY” written on the ass, or anything on eBay.
- Nutritionists are up our ass about drinking milk. Gotta have that calcium! By that logic, ice cream is a smart choice.
- Eat some good bacteria on purpose…Veggie bacteria are better than dairy bacteria, but real, plain yogurt (not the sweetened crap that’s basically icecream in a cup) will do in a pinch.
- Orange juice is not real food.
- Wood pulp is probably better for you than most cereals.
- Whatever an animal is fed will nestle into its fat. Unless it’s grass-fed/pastured meat, your steak (and pork, and chicken) was raised in a factory-style feedlot with grains and medications. That means the animal’s fat has all the crap you don’t want in your body – including hormones, pesticides, antibiotics, and excess omega-6 fatty acids.
- Type 2 diabetes is entirely preventable.
Scary.
It’s kind of funny, though. With every page turned, all I could think about was one of three things:
- Food.
- Myself.
- Krista choking me out in BJJ. Two years ago, I made the unpleasant choice of sparring with her on the mats. I remember thinking to myself, I can take her, I have at least 80 lbs on her. I was right about one thing. I probably do have 80 lbs on her. There’s a strong, intellectual beast inside that woman.
